Chronic Inflammation

Chronic inflammation, depicted in the images below, may be identified by the infiltration of mononuclear cells, including macrophages, hymphocytes and plasma cells. Attempts at healing by connective tissue replacement of damaged tissue is also present, which is accomplished by proliferation of small blood vessels (angiogenesis) and in particular, fibrosis.
